Mommy braid | Beauty with the Baby | Denver Mommy Blogger

Ok Moms... Who of you has time to wash, dry, and style their hair every morning? Those of you lucky to be able to pull off a short bob hair style, yay! But if you're like me, with no guts to just let it go, we have our daily styles. All depending on what wash day you're in. Ha ha, yes, I said wash day. I don't need to wash my hair every day. Really no one should. There are several articles proving that it isn't good for your hair to wash it every day. So I have "wash day styles". Day 1- fresh flat ironed curled under. Day 2- sides pinned back out of my face. Day 3- half up bun with a few pins. Day 4- some type of braid. Day 5- Different braid or mommy bun.

Let's get real... I'm in a mommy bun by 4pm most days

Like my wing liner series, Ill give you a braid series as well. The first one is my favorite. The Dutch braid.

Part your hair on whichever side you are comfortable with. I always choose a deep part to make the braid a lottle mor dramatic.

A dutch braid could also be called an inside out braid, pulling the strand under instead of over. still keeping the pulling in of new pieces into each new cross under.

Follow the hair line down and over the back of your ear. This is when I band the braid and prep the rest of your hair to be pulled off to the side and braided in.

Band off the hair at the bottom. With one hand, hold the end of the braid. With the other hand, lightly pull small pieces of each cross under out a bit. It'll make the braid look looser and more relaxed.

Sometimes I am not as careful while braiding and will simply take a few bobby pins and smooth down those sharkies. But sometimes the messy parts are the best!

Alicia's Wild Basin Lodge Wedding | Beauty with the Baby | Denver Airbrush Makeup Artist

I am finally getting around to blogging this beautiful wedding I got the chance to be a part of last August. Alicia was totally on the ball getting me booked almost a year before her wedding date! Total kudos, Girl! I love getting stuff nailed down early! Just so happens that the date was also my birthday. She's also a fellow Nebraska girl.. so this wedding held so many special places in my heart.

She came into town to finalize some wedding details and we had a little trial session.  I really cannot express how important a trial session is. I was able to learn her skin type and to steer her in the right direction as far as goals and skin care treatments so that her skin would be on point for her wedding day. Especially changing climates from humid to very dry. It was a big change in how the makeup would lay on the day of. So I recommended she check out my amazing cousin in Omaha, Jessica at Victor Victoria for a little skin balancing act. As you can see from these gorgeous photos from Caroline Colvin Photography... everything was absolutely perfect.

She wanted something natural, but with a pop in her lashes... it all balanced itself out so beautifully.

Sandey from Union Salon created these beautiful hairstyles for Alicia and her daughter. I love that they both had braids to match.

I wish nothing but the best for this Nebraska beauty... She pulled off such an amazing destination wedding that everyone should be jealous off.

Highlight like the Pros | Beauty with the Baby | Denver Airbrush Makeup Artist

One really easy step that you can add to your daily makeup routine is a killer highlight. Highlight is meant to make those areas stand out. Giving a bit of an optical illusion. That's why every Hollywood makeup artist is crazy about it. On the red carpet and under all those bright flash bulbs and stage lights you need a little something to keep you standing out in the crowd. In comes the highlight and contour routine. This blog will give you the basics on highlight. Check back next week for contour tips and tricks.

There's a few different types of highlighting product. Here's a few of my favorites at the moment.

face highlighting products

Cream- l'oreal this is great for dry skin types, and a more natural finish. It give those areas more glow rather than shimmer.

Powder-Mary Lou Manizer  this can be used on top of all your other product. Use a flat blender brush on top of your cheek bone to give a dewy effect. This defiantly is more sparkly than a cream.

Stick-High Beam I use this as a highlight in my inner tear duct and sometimes on my cupids bow. This contains a little more shimmery glitter than a cream.

face highlight guildlines

Follow the guidelines of these photos when applying cream highlight. upside down triangle under the eyes and between the brows. Down the center of your nose to your cupids bow. A triangle on the chin.

face highlight blending

Blend with a fluffy cream foundation brush. It's your choice whether to add it before or after your foundation. Since I use airbrush foundation, I highlight and contour first.

Find your glow and add it into your routine.
