I've been drooling over the idea of baby moccasins since I first found out I was having a girl. That was in June of 2013, so at that point there was really only one option. That option would be a very high priced, even thought the quality is spot on, totally unreachable thing for a Mama with a budget and a small business to run. So I started looking at other options. I even had some leather left over from a jewelry DIY that I ran over the notion of attempting to sew a pair myself. But come on, when have I ever been able to sit in front of my beautiful vintage Singer sewing machine the my parents bought me years and years ago, and actually have the patience to sew something into completion? I'm all about the DIY and crafty biz, but I'm a step skipper. That wouldn't go over to well with tiny little baby shoes. So I started creeping the pages and pages of "the devil in disguise".... etsy. If you've ever stepped one foot onto that sweet little homepage of theirs, that is it... your stuck, hooked, addicted.... hopelessly. Then you are peeking out those mini blinds every 2 hours to see if the mail man has inserted that adorable little mailer that is usually drawn on with some beautiful watercolor, colored pencil, boho goodness drawings, into your mailbox. Don't lie... you've at least checked the tracking number once or twice too soon.  

Well these sweet little dusty rose mocs came for a sweet little toddling girl the day that it began to snow, here in Denver Colorado. I almost cried. 

As I began putting them up for a warmer day, I saw her fuzzy little fleece socks and stuck them on her little Flintstones feet right away. She of course looked at them, then looked at me, then saw the cat and took off running. No slip sliding around on our hardwood floors. She was off and they were on. 

They are bound on the ankle with an elastic strap so its pretty tough for her to yank them off to eat them. They are thin enough for her to feel the floor under her while the wind is blowing though her ragamuffin hair.

The best part in all of this,... they were TOTALLY in our budget, and totally stretchable until her next size. I foresee us only ordering another pair only because shes run the soles right out of them. 

Don't let that face fool you, shes only just contemplating how to take off this adorable headband. My child is just bound to be a tomboy. Its tied with pantyhose material in the back. Which is like revolutionary for all those large meloned kids like mine. No marks or indentations left behind. 

They go with any outfit, and any mood. Who isn't in the mood for a cute pair of moccasins!

So there was this one time, okay like way more than one time, that I was awake in the middle of the night feeding my sweet girl in the first few months of her life. Losing clients because of my absence; my absence from the salon, and my absence of brain functionality. I was scrolling through instagram, looking at hashtags like #momlife #mamabird #motherhoodismymuse, and seeing them attached to such beautiful photos of these well rested, fully makeuped, hair curled, brunching, lunching, wining. I'm thinking to myself,... um when will my ability to wash my hair return? I followed their pages, and followed that over to their blogs. They secretly were just like me once. They even made careers out of it! Um, OK! Where do I sign up? When you google the question, how to be a blogger, get ready to read like you were reading your "how to baby" baby books. So much info, sooooo little time. Finally, one day it was like, poof... theres this thing that you do everyday, Ally. You are a facialist, a makeup artist, a make everyone else beautiful job that you are doing... you do it with your child, and you think you do it pretty damn good. LETS BEAUTY BLOG.... WITH YOUR BABY IN TOW. Lets show mommies how you "mommy" and try to be beautiful while doing it. Um, DUH! or "doi" as Ruby would say. 

So its not always gonna be proper grammar. Its not always gonna be fancy Nordies and Whole Foods. Its not always gonna be full makeup, "I woke up like this" photos. But its gonna be me. I hope that you follow me on this journey, criticize me when its needed, and laugh with me when I really eff up. Cause seriously, isn't that what #thatmomlife is all about, tho?

I want to write a letter, to my sweet baby girl, in the midst of this ever changing lifestyle that we lead. Why we do the things we do, why we stop at every moment to grab a photo, why she has to sit for an hour in her car seat hearing me say "just another minute". What we are trying to build, and why. 

To my Dear sweet Ruby girl.... 

Finally I get to write a little something to you, like I had set off to do months ago when you were born 11 months and threeish weeks ago. This is for me, as much as it is for you. To remind us both of all the time we spend doing things that you probably don't understand. I don't even understand them at times. But we are adapting, and learning, and praying hard that we are gonna get it right this time. 

My dear girl, your Daddy works his brain to much everyday, sometimes seriously, everyday since the day you were born. Overtime almost each and every work week. Nights, weekends, and even a few holidays in through your first year. He missed some times with you, but its all for the greater good.  Someday, you'll see why. 

Its just been me and you kiddo, sometimes from sun up to sun down and even sometimes after the sun goes to sleep. We've clung to each other. We've cried (oh boy have you cried), we've laughed, we've drifted off to a soft land of sleep if only for a few hours. We tried so hard to figure you out. What you needed, what you wanted. How your little heart ticked. It was a doozy of a first few months here on earth. But here we are. We've kept you alive this long. But dear, you've kept us alive as well. 

Through this all, I've finally learned why your grandparents worked the way they do. Grandpa has always worked for himself, and Grammy gave up her job early in my life. For me. Grampy worked as many hours as he could, for as long as he could, so he could give me and Grammy the world on a string. He could take time to take me on a trip for my birthday every year. He could go to work in the shop out back, so that I could hang out with him. Grammy left her job, so that it was her that was with me when I woke up, and when I went to sleep. She was there to pick me up from school everyday, and drive me to every ball game I played in. She was always there.  It was all for the greater good.

So my sweet girl, stopping at the perfect spot with flowers on our walks, in front of every good mirror in the store, in the middle of you pulling out every piece of laundry or product from the shelves,... just to take a photo, is for a purpose. When you play at my feet underneath the computer desk while I type, when you sit in your car seat while I give someone a wax, when you watch sesame street for the extra few minutes while I'm finishing up makeup at a photo shoot, when random people hold you while I finishing checking them out and changing my sheets... its all for the greater good. 

Your Mama is an esthetician, a makeup artist, and an aspiring beauty blogger. Your Mama works to make other women understand how beautiful they are. Your Mama wants everyone to see they things that other people see in them. Your Mama is doing all this, so that some day, you will see that in yourself too. Because, you are beautiful, little girl. Tell yourself that everyday, in between the times that you are getting sick of hearing us say it. Never forget a word of it. Its all for the greater good. 

Hang in there,... get ready for even more cameras in your sweet little face and more hearing clicks of this keyboard. Get ready to read some not so perfect grammar (don't tell your daddy). Were gonna document this beautiful little (but so big) life that we have. Were gonna make every woman radiate with courage. Let do this, baby! 

I love you with every inch of my being.
